How To Care For Your Beard In 4 Easy Steps
Caring for your beard and having it perfect without going through the barbershop on a daily basis seems like a complicated task, but nothing is further from the truth. Here is Burnt Whiskey Beard Experts’ simple four-step guide to caring for your beard that will greatly simplify this task.
The time that passes between one visit to the barbershop and the next depends on the type and length of beard we have, in short, beards the hair growth is noticeable much more than in long beards, so the visit has to be more regular.
But, regardless of the time that passes between one beard arrangement and the next, it is essential to have a series of beard care that will allow us to have it groomed and cared for at all times.
How To Clean The Beard?
Hair growth produces flaking and itching of the skin, it is a natural reaction of the skin, so daily cleaning of the beard is very important.
A hot shower to open the pores and a specific natural soap for beards, either in bars or in gel, are the ingredients to have a clean beard.
We will always apply the soap to our beard in a descending way, to avoid tangles that make the beard hair break when brushing it.
Do not forget to dry your beard well when finished to remove all moisture.
How To Hydrate Your Beard?
The most important step when caring for your beard is hydration. For this, it is advisable to use good beard oil, apply it on the palm of the hand, and massage from the skin to the tips, so that it is fully hydrated. Then comb it with a large spike comb.
There are several products to hydrate the beard, but the most used are oils and balms. Both fulfill the same function and their use depends more on the tastes of each one than on the properties they have. We like beard oil better because we think it spreads better throughout the beard and therefore hydrates better as well.
It is essential that we dry the beard well beforehand; since if there is water in our beard, it will not allow the oil to penetrate the skin and we will be wasting the product.
It is also important that the amount of oil is correct, since excess oil will not increase hydration, but will give an oily and dirty appearance.
Generally, for short beards we recommend a quarter dropper (4 or 5 drops), and for longer beards half a dropper (8 or 9 drops). Although it also depends on many factors such as the type of skin we have or how dry the beard is.
In any case, if after days we see that our beard is dry, we will increase the dose a little, and if we see that during the day the oil is not completely absorbed, we will reduce the amount of oil a little, until we achieve the adequate amount for our beard.
How To Fix The Beard?
Depending on the length of our beard and how we like to wear it, another point to take into account when caring for the beard is fixation. There are several ways to achieve fixation for our beard, depending on the level of fixation we want.
On the one hand, products that provide hydration, such as balms or some slightly denser oils such as Sweeney’s, provide us with a light or medium hold.
On the other hand, if what we need is a greater fixation, we recommend the use of fibers or waxes, which will give us greater control over the beard and the hair that may be loose. We believe that the best are those that provide a matte effect since they will give our beard a much more natural look.
In the barbershop we use reuse fiber, which provides a good hold, leaving a very natural matte effect on the beard, as if you were not wearing any product.
How To Trim A Beard?
Lastly, it is important to talk about beard grooming. If we want to remove those hairs that grow around the neck and cheekbones, it is necessary that we follow the barber’s instructions and be careful not to exceed the limits that the beard has marked for us.
