Beard Products What Are They And How To Use Them?
Since beards have once again become protagonists in our lives, many brands have produced all kinds of products to have them perfect. Next, we are going to see what types of beard products there are and how to use them to keep our beard cared for.
As we saw the post on how to care for our beard, we can divide these products into three large groups, products to clean the beard, products to hydrate the beard, and products to fix our beard.
PRODUCTS TO CLEAN THE BEARD
As for the products to clean our beard, it is easy, a brush and a beard soap.
Which Are?
The first thing we have to be clear about is the difference between a comb and a brush. The comb combs and the brush brushes seems obvious, but it is not. With the brush, we will be able to drag all the dirt and untangle the beard hairs without breaking them. If we do this with the comb, we run the risk that the hairs will split and the beard will cease to be uniform.
As for soap, there are two types, in pill or gel. There is no difference between one product and another other than the preference for one or the other. Why a specific beard soap, because the hair of the head is not the same as that of the beard, nor is the scalp the same as the skin of the face. The head shampoo is formulated to dry the scalp and the last thing we want in our beard is to dry it, so we must use a specific soap for beards. On the other hand, the more natural the soap, the fewer chemicals we will be putting into the skin and the better result we will have.
How Are They Used?
As for the use of the brush, it is very simple, with a dry beard, we brush our beard reaching down to touch the skin, remove flaking and dirt that we may have, and untangle the beard.
To use the soap, we put a small amount of gel or rub the bar on our hands until it makes enough lather, and we put our fingers until we reach the skin. As we have said before, the hair of the beard is not the same as that of the head, on the head, you can rub in all directions, in the beard we always have to clean ourselves in the descending direction to avoid tangling it.
Products To Hydrate The Beard
Moisturizing our beard is essential to prevent it from drying out, itching and flaking. If it itches, our first reaction is to scratch and if we scratch, we irritate the skin and peeling appears. That is why we must hydrate our beard, it is the most important. We have two products to hydrate our beard, beard oil and beard balm, both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Which Are?
Beard oil is easier to apply and, being liquid, it reaches the skin better and spreads better on the beard. On the other hand, some oils can leave a shiny effect on the beard and the hold is almost zero. The balm, however, being in a solid format, you have to apply a little heat so that it is well distributed on our hands, but it leaves a more matte effect and has a bit of fixation.
How Are They Used?
To apply the oil, we put a few drops in the palm of the hand, spread it well, and apply it to the beard and mustache. We must add the amount corresponding to our beard because there comes a time when the beard and skin no longer absorb more oil and that is when that shiny and oily appearance remains. As a general rule, for small beards a quarter of the dropper, for medium beards a half dropper, and for long beards a whole dropper, although that depends on each beard, we can try, and very soon we will find the perfect dose for our beard. As for the balm, we take a small amount, heat it in our hands as if it were butter, and apply exactly the same as with oil.
Remember that the oil or balm must be applied after showering, with a dry beard. It is not necessary to use a dryer, but it does remove as much moisture as possible. If we put oil on top of a layer of water, we all know how water and oil are carried away and it will not let it do their job.
Products To Fix The Beard
As the days go by since the last visit to the barber, both the mustache and the beard grow and it is possible that the hairs on the sides begin to shoot and the mustache begins to bother us. Also, the collars of shirts, coats, or scarves can cause the beard to not stay even and combed throughout the day. Therefore, for medium and long beards or to keep the mustache at bay, we may want to include a little extra hold.
Which Are?
To get our beard shape, we can use mustache wax or some matte pomade of those used for hair.
How Are They Used?
As for the mustache wax, we will take a very small portion with the nail and distribute it evenly on our thumb and index fingers. Once it has been heated, as with the balm, we have two options, if we want a natural mustache, we will apply the wax only on the lower part, to fix it, and that it lets us eat and does not bother us. If we want to shape our mustache, we will start by applying it at the base of the mustache and we will end up giving it the shape we want at the tips. You have to be careful and take a small amount because if we go over there we will have to wash and we will have to start over.
On the other hand, if we want to give the beard extra fixation, especially to the side of the beard, we can use a matte wax, with a medium or low fixation, to keep those unruly hairs at bay. We take a small amount, distribute it well on the palms of the hands, and apply it in the area that we want to fix without exerting too much pressure, so as not to deform our beard
